THE RIELEROS OF THE NORTH

Music that has and will continue

making history

Biography

It started as a group and remains a group. But today it is also an institution. It belongs to its members and, at the same time, to its followers, who during the 39 years of its career have made their own the numerous hits of a discography in which there are 48 albums.

With this achievement Los Rieleros del Norte demonstrated the impressive continuity of their work. They do not slow down or suspend their pace of activities. Imitated and never equaled, as they say in the title of one of their releases, their average is more than one album per year.

The most recent of his productions is called “Rieleros del Norte: Reaffirming The Style.” Contains 10 songs. From it comes “Señorita Cantinera” as the first promotional cut, whose interpretation combines the voices of Daniel Esquivel, their lifelong vocalist, and Polo Urías, who was also part of the group for about 10 years, after which he has ventured as a soloist with his own musicians.

“It's a great song that has touched the hearts of many people. It lends itself to being sung by two friends," says Alfredo 'El Chato' Esquivel, the well-known drummer of Rieleros, emphasizing that the lyrics of the song usually move more than one person in pain because of those verses that say "serve me another drink, Señorita Cantinera; but oh what the hell! "I want to forget the love of that woman."

Originally from the composer Esteban Navarrete, it is a ranchera that has its history because it was previously recorded by Los Alegres de Terán, Antonio Aguilar and Roberto Pulido y Sus Clásicos, but not as a duet as Daniel and Polo have done, and nor in the northern style with sax so characteristic of the Esquivels. That makes her a major surprise within the music industry.

Referring to the successes of the group 'El Chato' he says that “this is the new straw that breaks the camel's back, just as happened with 'Amor Prohibido' and for about 20 years with 'El Columpio', which is by Cornelio Reyna and in "Actually it's called 'Eso Duele Mucho' and it has had to be sung up to three times in the shows in some cases with us only providing the music and the audience providing the voices."

Apart from “Señorita Cantinera” the new Los Rieleros del Norte album includes Cornelio Reyna's composition “Me Moriría”, also performed as a duet by Daniel Esquivel and Polo Urías.

Like a real hallmark of identity, the repertoire of the rielero institution also known as La Maquina Musical Norteña #1, began to form since June 1983, the day it began in Pecos, Texas. In addition to “El Columpio” and “Amor Prohibido”, he has so far added numerous hits, including “Capricho Maldito”, “Te Quiero Mucho”, “Dime Ún Es”, “Una Aventura” and many more.

Originally from Ojinaga, Chihuahua, and established in El Paso, Texas, with their music and style they give a living testimony of the love of their roots and their culture in a unique style that combines the accordion, the saxophone and other instruments of the typical proposal of Chihuahua, which in Rieleros is structured with the presence of Daniel Esquivel Sr., first voice, director and founder along with his brother Alfredo 'El Chato' Esquivel, drummer; and Eugenio 'Pemo' González, saxophone.

They represent the first generation while their young children provide the new blood and the impetus that sustains its permanent evolution with the contribution of José Ángel Esquivel, electric bass; José Luis Esquivel, sixth bass; and Daniel Esquivel Jr., accordion and second voice.

Dedicated entirely to their music, the six of them are full-time professionals. It is the happy meeting of two generations who know very well where they come from and where they are going.

In recognition of their inimitable level of quality, they have been nominated three times for the Grammy, the most important musical trophy in the world. His most recent nomination corresponds to the 2014 Latin Grammy for the album titled “En Tus Manos.”

Along with frequently filling the venues in which they perform to their maximum capacity, Los Rieleros del Norte's list of achievements also includes obtaining #1 on Billboard with the album “Siempre Imitado, Jamás Igualado” (2006) which was nine weeks at the top of the charts, also earning a Gold Record certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

The name of Rieleros del Norte is also immortalized on the Walk of Stars in Las Vegas, right on the Strip, next to the Paris Hotel and, step by step, the great adventure that has been his uninterrupted and exemplary 39-year career is narrated with luxury of details and unpublished graphic documents in the book 'Not everything that shines is gold' written by 'El Chato'.

Definitive and conclusive. The group that, due to its development and popularity, now has the status of a true institution makes northern music because its founders are from the north. That is the music they carry in their guts. They love it because it is tradition, because it is Mexico and because it has allowed them to establish themselves, have a solid audience and achieve high sales for their recordings.

The solidity of its past, present and future emanates from the innate talent of its members, their professionalism, perseverance and experience; and, above all, of that unitary family attitude with which they undertake their activities, sure that their songs bring the message, the lyrics, the melody and the rhythm with which their people identify, those who share their joy and give them their applause, their loyalty and their adhesion.

Being pioneers and not copying anyone: that has been the only secret of the success of Los Rieleros del Norte. With that mentality they have made and will continue to make history in northern music of all time.
